Here are a few cool things about the new reissued/remastered “Who’s Running My World?” CD. Available right now at the Bill Durst website store.
Remember this is is back in 1994-95 when radio was still the biggest promoter of new music in the country.
When we made the “Who’s Running” project we did so with a small independent record label. Normally bands backed by large record companies got most of the radio airplay.
However in the case of “Who’s Running” the title song “Who’s Running My World?” became the first independent label/band track to reach the Top 20 national commercial radio charts in the history of radio in Canada!
Two other songs “Blue Water” and “She Said” also made the Top 30 national charts!
Vancouver's biggest rock station CFOX , decided to play “Hippy”
as a single instead of the suggested tracks.
At the time the war on drugs was at it’s height so when a radio station in Hamilton played “The Marijuana Song” all the phone lines lit up. More on this later.
The entire album was played on FM 96 in London Ontario before the CD was released. They played a cassette version! They couldn’t wait!
All in all, songs from “Who’s Running My World?” were on the national charts for over a year.
It was essentially unheard of for an independently made recording to get that much commercial airplay without the aid of a large record company. But it happened because of the quality of the music and the determination of all involved to do the best job possible. BD
This reissued “Who’s Running My World?” CD was originally released under the band name “Thundermug” in 1994.
Thundermug was a pioneering Canadian heavy rock band from London, Ontario. The original members were Ed Pranskus on drums, Jim Corbett on bass, Joe DeAngelis on vocals and Bill Durst on guitar. Their second single “Africa” was a 1972 radio hit on three continents.
In 1993-4 Corbett, DeAngelis and Durst came together and wrote, recorded and released “Who’s Running My World?”.
The album was very successful with three charted hit singles on broadcast radio across Canada. Bill Durst was the producer of the recording along with the Juno Award winning Dan Brodbeck.
The amazingly talented, intuitive composer and arranger Jim Corbett played the bass. Corey Thompson, who played drums on the last three Bill Durst CDs, composed, played and sang on the 1994 album and Joe DeAngelis long time co-composer with Durst composed and sang on the CD. Bill Durst composed, played guitar and Ebow and sang lead vocals.
For my fans who have discovered me in the last dozen years or so, especially in western Canada, who have said to me “how did you ever fly under my radar?” “Who’s Running My World?” is one of the answers for you.
To my fans who have already owned a copy of the old version… get ready for a renewed listening experience. Dan Brodbeck has surpassed himself with his Remastering and the CD sounds amazing. All of you who have told me your issue of “Who’s Running” is worn out …now is your time to secure your Reissued and Remastered copy.
“Who’s Running My World?” has a new CD cover to signal a new series. ‘The History of Bill Durst’ series of recordings will include some very rare and previously unreleased Thundermug recordings amongst others!
I decided to reissue and remaster this album after listening to it one day in the van. I had not heard it for several years. Honestly, I was blown away by the lyric. The music and the performances on “Who’s Running My World?” are fresh and full of life.
This is a recording not for yesterday but for today and the future. This is a Classic. Friends of 420 will be delighted.
Tell me if you agree!
I hope this music lifts your spirits. It sure lifted mine!
Peace, Love and Always Music
